Lot no. 109
Gustave FLAUBERT. L.A.S., [Croisset] Wednesday evening [13 June 1877], to his friend Edmond LAPORTE 2 pages in-8 (stamp E.L). On Bouvard and Pécuchet. He thanks Laporte for sending him, and worries: "I imagine that my Asiatic is not cheerful? & I think of him often". He is going to spend a few days in Paris to meet Madame Pelouze. On Sunday he was at Le Vaudreuil with Raoul-Duval, who was "going to look for subscriptions for Commanville [husband of Flaubert's niece]". "I pick B. and P! My medicine is sketched out. It will be 14 to 16 pages in all. That's enough". He mentions the articles on the Three Tales, including one by Mme DAUDET: "You couldn't be kinder". He offers to intervene on Laporte's behalf with Yves Guyot. "It occurred to me to work on your behalf - since you asked for it. But there aren't enough books. You would need (for me) a whole stupid library. And what about the received ideas? When you can get me your Raspail, & one of his health manuals, send them to me". He added: "Visit Le Plé! - friends like pigs. Visit to Barabé - splendid, what a prudent man!"; and he bids farewell to his "good old solid"... Correspondence (Pléiade), t. V, p. 247.
