HOUR LAVIGNE, ASTRARIUM CLOCK WITH WHITE MARBLE BASE, CIRCA 1990
The astrolabe, from the Greek Astro = star Lambranein = to take, is a very ancient instrument, consisting of a disk on which several curves are engraved, it is equipped with a certain number of alidades (movable rods, one end of which moves on a graduated dial used to measure angles) which, directed towards the stars, make it possible to know the latitude by intersecting the lines engraved on the disk. Our ancestors used it mainly to measure time based on the position of the stars, sun and moon.
The astrolabe was modified and perfected over the centuries, up to the Renaissance, it was mainly the Arab countries that developed this measuring instrument, dedicating numerous works to it.
