Hyacinthe RIGAUD (1659-1743) & Claude DREVET (1697-1781), after Portrait of Henri Oswald de La Tour d'Auvergne, Cardinal of Auvergne, Archbishop of Vienne, Abbot of Cluny, Canon and Grand Provost of Strasbourg, Commander of the Order of the Holy Spirit. Black engraving. 19th century. 51 x 38 cm. Worn, trimmed. Note: Son of Frédéric-Maurice de la Tour d'Auvergne (1642-1707) and Princess Françoise de Hohenzollern-Hechingen (1642-1698), Henri Oswald de La Tour d'Auvergne (1671-1747) was destined by his family for an ecclesiastical career. Nicknamed "L'Abbé d'Auvergne" and later "Le Cardinal d'Auvergne", Henri Oswald became Archbishop of Tours from 1719 to 1721 and then Archbishop of Vienna from 1721 to 1745. He was elevated to the eminent rank of cardinal on 20 December 1737 by Pope Clement XII.
