INLAID CABINET Baroque, southern Germany or Tyrol, ca. 1580. Walnut, plum, ash and local tinted woods, richly inlaid and fire-shaded with architectural foliage and a ruin capriccio as well as with striking architectural scrolls. The sides and top inlaid with rectangular reserves framed by broad fillets. Rectangular body, the front divided into eleven drawers, two doors and one double door. The drawer and the door fronts are each framed by a profiled rod. Fine metal knobs as handles (two replaced) and fine forged iron fittings and locks. 3 keys. 91 × 38 × 55 cm. In good restored condition, few supplements. Provenance: Private collection, Switzerland. In addition to the rich depictions of cities and ruins, which are a popular decorative element on numerous cabinets from the end of the 16th century, the most striking feature of the cabinet on offer is the stylistic motif of the architectural scrolls in the inlaid pictures, which seem to overgrow the architectural foliage. They lend the piece a special character, and are occasionally found on cabinets from southern Germany and Tyrol from the same period. Equally typical for this type of cabinet is the repetitive use of the same motif, which indicates a certain standardization of production at the time. ------------------------------------------------- INTARSIERTES KABINETT Barock, Süddeutschland oder Tirol, um 1580. Nussbaum, Zwetschge, Esche und einheimische getönte Hölzer reich eingelegt und brandschattiert mit Architekturprospekten und Ruinencapriccio sowie markanten architektonischen Voluten. Die Seiten und Oberseite mit von breiten Filets gerahmten rechteckigen Reserven eingelegt. Rechteckiger Korpus, die Front unterteilt in elf Schubladen, zwei Türen und eine Doppeltüre. Die Schubladen- und Türfronten jeweils von Profilstab gerahmt. Feine Metallknöpfe als Griffe (zwei ersetzt) und feine geschmiedete Eisenbeschläge und -schlösser. 3 Schlüssel. 91 × 38 × 55 cm. Guter restaurierter Zustand, wenige Ergänzungen. Provenienz: Privatsammlung Schweiz. Neben den reichen Stadt- und Ruinendarstellungen, die sich als beliebtes Dekorationselement auf zahlreichen Kabinettschränken des ausgehenden 16. Jh. wiederfinden, sticht bei unserem Schrank vor allem das Stilmotiv der manieristisch anmutenden architektonischen Voluten in den Intarsienbildern, welche die Architekturprospekte zu überwuchern scheinen. Sie verleihen dem Stück eine besondere Prägung, finden sich jedoch gelegentlich auf Kabinetten aus Süddeutschland und Tirol jener Epoche. Ein vergleichbares Kabinett aus Tirol, datiert in das spätere 16. Jh. aus der ehemaligen Sammlung Dr. J. Krinaz in Wien ist abgebildet bei: Liselotte Möller. Ebenso typisch für diesen Kabinetttypus ist die teilweise repetitive Verwendung desselben Motivbildes, das auf eine gewisse Standardisierung der damaligen Produktion hinweist.
