KANTHAROS Black glazed terracotta with white ochre paint. H. 14.6 cm Gnathia, ca. 320-300 BC Provenance Private collection, acquired from Galerie Berhard Pfeiffer, November 2014 It has two vertical handles running from the rim to the shoulder, each decorated with a thumb rest in the shape of a Heracles knot. The foot has three mouldings. On each side of the neck, a frieze of yellow ivy with berries. The ribbed body is topped with a white band on each side. At the base of the handles are yellow rays crowned by a horizontal band. The bottom of the body and the stem are left bare, with a black band around the lower part. A faded pattern of yellow ovals at the base and a dark brown band on the underside.
