First edition of this important work for Burgundy vineyards, as it contains the first attempt at a complete classification, by finage, of the climats of the Côte-d'Or. It was written and illustrated by Jules Lavalle, a doctor from Dijon, with the help of archivist Joseph Garnier, pharmacist Emile Delarue and a large number of owners and winegrowers. The work is illustrated with fifteen fine two-tone lithographed plates by the author: six views of the communes of Beaune, Chenôve, Gevrey-Chambertin, Vougeot and Puligny in the text volume; and, in the accompanying folio atlas, nine views of the communes of Dijon, Brochon, Fixin and Fixey, Morey, Vosne, Nuits, Aloxe and Pernant, Meursault, Chassagne, Puligny and Santenay. Copies complete with all fifteen plates, such as this one, are hard to find. Missing the folded topographical map; volume of text to be bound, cover damaged and lacking the second plate, scattered spotting and faint marginal spotting; a few light freckles in the atlas.
