MEDALLION OR BULLA Embossed and incised gold. Stretching on the edge. Representing the bust of a female figure wearing a diadem (Aphrodite?). Two dolphins in the field. Frieze of ovals on the rim. This element, although now unattached, must have been a pendant. Gold. Diam. 6.3 cm; 12.1 g In a shaped case. Hellenistic art, 4th-3rd century BC Provenance Former Armand Trampitsch collection (1890-1970) Then by descent French private collection An Hellenistic gold repousse medallion/bulla with the bust of a goddess (probably Aphrodite).
