A real time capsule, preserved by a young woman called Jacqueline, this parcel from Christmas 1944, sent to Private William M. Ball of Knox in Tennessee, ASN 34504939, of the 610th Engineer Light Equipment Company / 1171st Engineer Combat Group, in which she preserved souvenirs, wrappings of rations, chewing gum and gifts made by American soldiers. Some of the wrappings bear the name Paul, a small wooden cube is inscribed Tom Gre and Jacqueline with a heart pierced by an arrow, newspaper cuttings on the liberation of Liege. In all 34 items, pocket guide France, empty K and D ration packs, chocolate wrappers and labels, chewing gum, lemon juice, toothpaste, salmon, fruit and a bag of inner tube valves. The 610th was attached to the 4th SignalCo, 4th Infantry Division and later the 101st Airborne, and landed in Normandy on 6 June 1944.
