A pair of important Meissen offering bowls from a service by Tsarina Elisabeth I. Passige form with all-round serrated, perforated, gold-decorated rim. Gotzkowsky decoration in relief. In the slightly recessed centre a chrysanthemum branch with a bird perched on it. Four corresponding rocaille cartouches on the rim, containing various merchant shipping and landscape scenes with architectural, multi-figure harbour scenes with workers and merchants. Polychrome painting. Designed by Johann Friedrich Eberlein, circa 1741, with a partial turner's no. 20 and a turner's mark for Johann Gottlieb Geithner. Enclosed certificate. Partially restored; crossed swords mark. D. 28 cm. Around 1741, J. F. Eberlein designed the so-called Elisabeth Service, which was commissioned by the Tsarina herself or received as a gift from August III of Poland. The model from 1741 shows Indian flowers and the somewhat later decoration from 1744 consists of various woodcut flowers. Variants of the service can be found in the Hermitage in St Petersburg.
