RARE ROMAN HIGH KARAT GOLD RING WITH BANDED AGATE INTAGLIO DEPICTING ANTS.
Ca. AD 1 - 200.
An oval banded agate intaglio engraved with two facing ants, shown in profile and rendered with segmented bodies and jointed legs. The intaglio is set in a plain, recessed bezel within a gold ring with a tapering hoop. Reviewed by Sami Fortune, an ancient jewellery specialist.
