RARE SICILIAN POTTERY PLASTIC ASKOS IN THE FORM OF A MOUSE. Magna Graecia, Sicily, Ca. 400 - 300 BC. A terracotta askos in the form of a stylised mouse. The vessel is modelled with a pointed snout, short linear strokes indicating the mouth, circular, applied eyes and prominent ears. The forelegs and hindlegs are drawn along the sides of the body. A vertical spout with a pronounced rim rises centrally from the back; its base is encircled by S-shaped motifs. A second, smaller spout of tapering profile emerges at the rear, positioned above the tail, which curves around the hind part of the body. The surface is decorated with black-painted motifs over a red slip, including intersecting lines, dots, and a frontal palmette placed above the ears.
