ROMAN AMETHYST CAMEO DEPICTING THE HEAD OF MEDUSA IN HIGH KARAT GOLD PENDANT. Ca. AD 1 - 100. An amethyst cameo finely carved in high relief with the frontal head of Medusa. The face is framed by deeply incised, flowing hair with curling locks extending to either side. The eyes are wide-set and almond-shaped, the brows prominent, and the mouth rendered with slightly parted lips. The stone is set within a circular 23.5 kt gold mount composed of a plain inner bezel bordered by a ridged outer frame, with a suspension loop positioned above.
