ROMAN HIGH KARAT GOLD RING WITH CARNELIAN INTAGLIO DEPICTING VICTORY. Ca. AD 50 - 200. A carnelian intaglio engraved with the standing figure of Victory, shown in profile with raised wings and drapery falling in vertical folds from the shoulders. The intaglio is set in a recessed oval bezel of a plain 21 kt gold ring with a tapering hoop. Reviewed by Sami Fortune, an ancient jewellery specialist.
