ROMAN INTAGLIO DEPICTING AENEAS IN FRONT OF AN ALTAR IN HIGH KARAT GOLD RING. Ca. AD 200 - 300. A dark red intaglio depicting a heroic male figure, identified as Aeneas, shown nude and standing in profile before an altar. He holds two arrows in his left hand. The altar is surmounted by a small statue and flanked by drapery and a pair of animal heads. The intaglio is set in an oval bezel mounted on a broad 21.5 kt gold hoop with flat shoulders.
