ROMAN INTAGLIO DEPICTING THE IMPERIAL EAGLE BETWEEN STANDARDS IN HIGH KARAT GOLD RING. Ca. AD 100 - 200. A black stone intaglio engraved with a central eagle flanked by two military standards. The eagle stands with wings spread, head turned to its right, and is surrounded by celestial symbols, including a crescent and stars. The intaglio is set in a plain oval bezel, mounted in a 22 kt gold ring with a rounded hoop. Reviewed by Sami Fortune, an ancient jewellery specialist.
