Rare Friedberg Baroque horizontal table clock by Benedikt Fürstenfelder Gilt bronze. Hexagonal clock case on a moulded base with heavily indented, scrolled volutes and multiple articulated baluster legs. Surrounding glass discs framed in cartouches, accompanied by raised grimace motifs in relief. Corresponding upper end with finely chiselled leaf motifs on a finely striped background. Framed dial with Roman numerals. Movement with verge escapement, chain and fusee as well as hour strike on base bell and elaborate decorations of open-worked and chiselled leaf volutes. Repetition. Marked BENE FIRSTENFELDR FRIDBERG. H. 7.5 cm. D. 8.5 cm. Benedikt Fürstenfelder (1680-1754) is recorded in the Friedberg parish records from 1710. Comparable hexagonal horizontal table clocks can be found in the collections of the Victoria & Albert Museum, London (inv. no. 178-1866) and in the Friedberg Museum (inv. no. 502) as evidence of Friedberg's importance as a clockmaking town.
