Lot no. 63
STATUETTE OF CERES
Bronze.
H. 20 cm
Roman art, 2nd century
Provenance
Private collection, Toulouse, acquired on 6 May 1982 from Numifrance Art Antique,
Avenue du Général de Gaulle. Thonon. France.
The goddess is depicted with full feet, on her original pedestal base. In her right hand, she is holding a staff adorned with a pine cone, while in her left, she is holding ears of corn. Her head is crowned with a diadem and a modius.
Her contrapposto posture reveals an elegant sway and a certain sensuality accentuated by the movements of her dress, leaving her left breast exposed.
This representation of the goddess, with her characteristic attributes and the general appearance of her posture, is a perfect symbol of abundance.
Very good condition.
