DIANE STATUETTE Terracotta. Height 18 cm Roman art, 1st-3rd century Provenance Private collection, acquired on the English market in the 1970s The figure is dressed in a belted chiton and carries a quiver behind her right shoulder. The modelling of the body and clothing are well detailed. This Roman terracotta figurine was inspired by an original Greek bronze figure of Artemis by the sculptor Kephisodotos (4th century BC), who was famous throughout the ancient world. It was probably a votive offering, as the piece appears never to have had a head or limbs. A Roman terracotta figure of Diana. 1st-3rd century A.D.
