STUNNING GREEK PERIOD SILVER-GILT RHYTHON WITH IBEX PROTOME
Ca. 500 BC.
A silver-gilt rhyton formed as a curved, vertically fluted cup with an everted mouth and moulded rim, the lower end modelled as the forepart of an ibex with pointed ears, large rounded eyes, a ribbed dewlap and long backward-swept horns cut with chevron grooves; the chest and shoulders detailed with punched dots and the forelegs extended, traces of gilding remaining across the surface.
