SUPERB APULIAN RED-FIGURE POTTERY ASKOS OF THE BALTIMORE PAINTER. Attributed to the Workshop of the Baltimore Painter, Ca. 335-320 BC. A red-figure askos with a rounded body set on a low ring foot. One end rises into a vertical spout with a flaring rim, while the opposite side curves sharply upward into a pointed, raised projection. A strap handle extends between the spout and the upturned terminal. The main panel depicts a seated maenad facing right, dressed in a finely pleated peplos and adorned with a beaded necklace and fillet. She holds a wreath in her right hand and extends her left palm forward with two shallow bowls. The reverse is decorated with a large palmette flanked by scrolling tendrils.
