Torii Kiyonaga (Japan, 1752-1815)
Print, koban tate-e, from the series Ukiyo jishhu hō (浮世十種宝), Ten Magic Treasures of the Floating World, plate two courtesans in an interior. Signed Kiyonaga ga. Publisher Kozuya Izuke of Keiundo with stamp Kozu han. About 1785 (Small restoration in the left margin).
Dim. 22 x 16 cm
Two courtesans relax in an interior. One is standing with her outer dress casually thrown over her shoulders and turns towards her companion, who is leaning on an unmade bed and holding a long pipe. On the floor, a red lacquer tray holds porcelain bowls. There are many such series comparing the courtesans of the Yoshiwara with the Takaramono.
