VENDÔME (Henriette de Belgique, duchesse de). Fleurs des Alpes. Lausanne, Gonin, 1928. 2 volumes in-8°, bound in full modern morocco, old spines rebacked with gilt title and author (Gonin). First edition, 150 copies numbered (No. 35). The text is printed on Japanese paper and the watercolours are printed on laid paper from the Arches paper mills. A superb work illustrated with 116 hors-texte colour plates based on the author's watercolours, most of them double-page spreads (56 in Volume I and 60 in Volume II). The observation sites are mainly in the Mont Blanc massif and the Col du Lautaret, but also in the Tarentaise, Bauges, Chartreuse, Vercors and Hautes-Alpes regions. Henriette of Belgium (Brussels 1870 - Sierre 1948) was the elder sister of Belgian King Albert I and the wife of Emmanuel d'Orléans, Duke of Vendôme. Between 1922 and 1945, she lived at the Château de Blonay in Lugrin, Haute-Savoie. She was a talented watercolourist. Perret, 4431-J
