William Collingwood Smith, a member of the Old Water Colour Society from 1843, travelled both in England and on the Continent from 1850, particularly in France. His sojourns inspired a number of French views, including Notre-Dame, Paris and L'Eglise Saint-Rémy, rue Thomas Bouchard in Dieppe, a watercolour in the Musée municipal de Dieppe.
