Lot no. 1636
TWO-PIECE CUTLERY SET WITH KNIFE AND FORK AND CASE Dutch, late 16th century. Fully carved ivory handles, the ends of the handles in the shape of busts with high collars and hat-like headgear. Recessed blade chape. Centre-pointed blade. Fork with two prongs, the bolster with a baluster shape. The quiver-shaped sheath with ribbed walls, flattened on the back. Carved in relief with a winged head above a leaf volute. The tip turned. L Knife 20.2 cm, fork 18 cm, quiver 19.5 cm. Blade and fork replaced in the 17th century. Knife handle heavily cracked.
